Volunteer Internship Program (VIP)

Gain real-world trading experience with VIP

The Volunteer Internship Program (VIP) at McMaster provides students with the opportunity to gain practical trading room experience. Interns are trained to become familiar with the systems and tools used in the trading centres and learn to run seminars. After completing 20 hours of supervised training, students become eligible to apply for employment at the centres.

The program is designed to be flexible, allowing students to learn at their own pace. Manuals are provided for self-study, and floor employees offer guidance throughout the process. Floor supervisors act as mentors, working closely with students to help them navigate the learning experience.

The VIP program helps students enhance their research skills, gain valuable work experience, and improve both their software and personal skills.

Additionally, each summer, a number of students are trained as floor supervisors and administrators. These students assist with scheduling, bookings, payroll, training, website management, and reporting issues to the director.
