Volunteer Internship Program

The Volunteer Internship Program (or VIP) was created to help any McMaster student learn practical trading room skills.

Student employees at the two trading centres must be familiar with the centres’ systems and tools. They also need to be able to run the seminars offered there.

Students who complete 20 hours of  training under supervision become eligible to apply for employment at the centres.

It is a work-at-your-own pace program. Manuals are available to study and guidance is provided by the floor employees. Floor supervisors act as mentors, and work personally with students in the program to help them through the learning process.

The Volunteer Internship Program helps students enhance their research skills, gain work experience and sharpen valuable software and personal skills.

In addition to the VIP program, every summer we train a number of students to be floor supervisors and administrators. These students help run the trading centres by assisting with scheduling, bookings, payroll, training, administering the website and reporting problems to the director. They also publish the weekly MarketWatch newsletter.

If you’d like to apply to the VIP program or to be a trading floor coordinator visit one of the centres and talk to our staff. You can also email gtf@mcmaster.ca (GTF).
